Thought for the Day

Living Now

We need tradition. Tradition preserves life. But it does not give life.

We need goals. Goals inspire life. But they are not life.

Life is here and now. To be alive, your here and now must touch the essence of your soul. To be alive, every moment must be a new life.

And so, our sages said, "Every day the Torah must be new to you."

For if it is not new, then it is not your life. And if it is not your life, then what is?

From the wisdom of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, of righteous memory; words and condensation by Tzvi Freeman. To order Tzvi's book, "Bringing Heaven Down to Earth, click here. Rabbi Freeman is available for public speaking and workshops. Read more on his bio page.

Abraham caused G-d's name to be spoken in the mouths of all passerby. How so? After they ate and drank [in his home], they made to bless him. Said he to them: "Have you eaten of mine? Your food has been provided by the G-d of the world! Thank, praise and bless He who spoke the world into being!"
